Goldenrod is included in numerous tea blends of the bladder/kidney tea group, also as instant tea and in filter bags. Furthermore, many mono- and combination preparations contain dry and fluid extracts of the herb, although care should be taken to ensure that genuine goldenrod is declared on the package.
The preparations are available on the market in the form of capsules, dragées, drops and other forms of preparation.
Goldenrod – the right dose
The average daily dose of 6-12 g of goldenrod herb should not be exceeded.
Preparation of goldenrod
To prepare goldenrod tea, 2-3 g of the finely chopped herb (1 teaspoon equals about 2 g) is poured over boiling water and passed through a tea strainer after 5-10 minutes. Goldenrod herb can also be prepared cold and then briefly boiled.
To develop the diuretic effect, 1 cup of the tea should be drunk 3-5 times a day.
When should goldenrod not be used?
Preparations containing goldenrod should not be taken in cases of edema (swelling of tissues due to water retention) caused by impaired heart and kidney activity.
Other contraindications include chronic kidney disease, pregnancy, and lactation.
Directions for use of goldenrod
During flushing therapy, it is essential to ensure adequate fluid intake, that is, at least 2 liters daily.
Goldenrod herb should be stored dry and protected from light.
