Halometasone

Halometasone is commercially available as a cream in combination with triclosan (Sicorten plus). It has been approved in many countries since 1983.

Structure and properties

Halometasone (C22H27ClF2O5, Mr = 444.9 g/mol) is a chlorinated and fluorinated (halogenated) steroid.

Effects

Halometasone (ATC D07AC12) has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and immunosuppressive properties. It is a potent class III glucocorticoid, and its effects are based on binding to cytoplasmic receptors.

Indications

For the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions.

Dosage

According to the professional information. The cream is applied once or twice a day.

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Viral skin diseases
  • Skin diseases of syphilitic origin
  • Skin tuberculosis
  • Rosacea
  • Perioral dermatitis
  • Acne vulgaris
  • Ulcerated skin areas
  • In and around the eye
  • In the auditory canal in the case of a perforation of the eardrum.

Adverse effects

The most common potential adverse effects include local reactions such as irritation, burning, and itching. Prolonged, excessive, and occlusive use may cause typical steroid side effects on the skin.
