Helicobacter Pylori Infection: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection.

Family history

  • Is there a history of frequent gastrointestinal tract diseases in your family?

Social history

  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you suffer from discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen?
    • Belching
    • Feeling of pressure in the upper abdomen
    • Cramping abdominal discomfort (abdominal pain).
    • Nausea (nausea)
    • Feeling of fullness
  • When does this pain occur? After eating or when fasting?
  • Do you have heartburn?
  • Do you have pain behind the breastbone?
  • Do you feel nauseous? Do you have to vomit?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you suffer from loss of appetite?
  • Has your appetite changed?
  • Have you unintentionally lost body weight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you drink enough? How much have you drunk today?
  • Do you like to drink coffee? If so, how many cups per day?
  • Do you drink other or additional caffeinated beverages? If so, how much of each?
  • Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
