Hima Pasta

Products

Hima pasta was approved in many countries in 1995. After 22 years, in 2017, its sales were discontinued.

Ingredients

1 g paste contained 10 mg zinc sulfate and 200 mg zinc oxide. Excipients: propylene glycol, dye E 172 (iron oxide), preservative benzalkonium chloride (selection).

Effects

The active ingredients zinc sulfate and zinc oxide have antiviral, antiseptic, astringent, drying, and wound-healing properties. The effects are based, among other things, on the attachment to membrane proteins of the herpes viruses. This prevents penetration into the cells.

Indications

For the prevention and treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis).

Dosage

According to the professional information. The paste was applied two to four times a day.

Contraindications

The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity. Full precautions can be found in the drug label.

Interactions

Zinc ointments may affect the action of other topical medications.

Adverse effects

When applied to severely inflamed lips, a slight burning sensation may occur. Local hypersensitivity reactions cannot be ruled out.
