How can kidney stones be prevented?
To prevent the first or recurrence of kidney stones, it is particularly important to always drink a lot, preferably two to three liters of water or herbal tea daily. Black tea or coffee, on the other hand, can increase the risk of kidney stones due to the oxalate it contains and should therefore be avoided. In addition, regular physical exercise, for example by walking, is helpful to prevent the formation of kidney stones and to allow smaller stones to go away before they become larger and cause pain.
Animal fats should be kept to a minimum in the diet. Because of the different possible components of kidney stones, certain foods should be avoided after a person has been through illness in order to prevent the recurrence of kidney stones. The doctor should be consulted accordingly. Since overweight is also a risk factor for the formation of kidney stones, it is recommended to reduce it if necessary.
