The following symptoms and complaints may indicate hypothermia (hypothermia):
Rectal temperature 35-32.2 °C
Leading symptoms
- Amnesia (form of memory impairment for temporal or content memories).
- Apathy (apathy)
- Disturbances of consciousness
- Brady/tachycardia – too slow (< 60 heartbeats/minute)/too fast heart rate (> 100 heartbeats/minute).
- Brady-/tachypnea – decreased (breathing at less than ten breaths per minute)/increased respiratory rate.
- Bronchorrhea (bronchitis)
- Bronchospasm – cramping of the muscles of the bronchi.
- Dysarthria (speech disorder)
- Hypertension (high blood pressure) and increase in cardiac output (CV).
- Muscle tremor, later muscle fatigue.
- Increased diuresis (urine output).
Rectal temperature 32.1-28 °C
- Failure of protective reflexes
- Bradycardia – heartbeat too slow: < 60 beats per minute.
- Hallucinations
- Hyporeflexia – decreased reflexes.
- Bradypnea – decreased respiratory rate.
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Mydriasis – wide pupils
- Paradoxical undressing
- Rigidity – stiffening of the muscles
- Increasing the blood flow to the kidneys
- Increasing disorders of consciousness
Rectal temperature < 28 °C
- Apnea (respiratory arrest)
- Areflexia – no reflexes can be triggered
- Bradycardia – heartbeat too slow: < 60 beats per minute.
- Bradypnea – decreased respiratory rate.
- Cardiac arrhythmias – often ventricular fibrillation, asystole.
- Hypotension – low blood pressure
- Coma
- Lung congestion
- Oliguria – urine output < 500 ml/24h
- Loss of reflexes involving the eye
- Decrease in cardiac output (HZV).
- Decrease in nerve conduction velocity
