Irritable Bladder (Urethral Syndrome): Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of urethral syndrome (irritable bladder).

  • Is there a frequent occurrence of urogenital system diseases in your family?

Social history

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What complaints have you noticed?
  • How long have these changes existed?
  • Do you suffer from urinary urgency?
  • How often do you have to urinate every day?
  • Do you pass large amounts of urine in the process?
  • Do you suffer from urination at night?
  • Do you have discomfort when urinating?
  • Do you have pain in the urethra and/or pelvic area?
    • Independent of urination?
    • Dependent on urination?
  • Has the urine changed in color, consistency, and quantity?
  • Do you have pain during sexual intercourse?
  • Do you have any other complaints?
  • Do you suffer from bladder weakness, i.e. inability to retain urine?
