2nd order laboratory parameters – depending on the results of the medical history, physical examination, etc. – for differential diagnostic clarification
- Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein) or ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate).
- Pathogen detection
- Bacteriology (cultural): throat swab, tracheal secretions, or pharyngeal lavage water for pathogens and resistance (to detect diphtheria bacteria, if necessary).
- Serology: antibodies against adenoviruses, Bordetella pertussis, Coxsackie viruses, ECHO viruses, influenza viruses, mycoplasma, parainfluenza viruses, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
- Examination of sputum or gastric juice for tuberculosis pathogens (Tbc).
- Allergy diagnostics (52% showed a positive reaction: most often to dust mites and least often to molds).
