Life expectancy in peritoneal metastases
Of course, every patient who is diagnosed with cancer and metastases wants to know how long he has to live. However, these are individual values that depend on how pronounced the metastases are and whether they can still be removed by surgery or be contained by drug therapy. In later stages, the surrounding organs (stomach, intestines, bladder) can also be affected by the peritoneal metastases.
Furthermore, the prognosis depends on the underlying disease and other metastasis sites. The patient’s general state of health also plays a role. Finally, the prognosis of cancer is always influenced by how the disease responds to therapy.
The prognosis can only be estimated by the treating physicians. Even these can only give a probability of survival, even if they consider all the decisive factors. Whether and how long an individual patient with a particular disease will survive, ultimately no one can predict with certainty.
