Structure and properties
Mebeverine (C25H35NO5, Mr = 429.6 g/mol) is an open-chain derivative of papaverine. It is present in drugs as mebeverine hydrochloride, a white crystalline powder that is very soluble in water.
Effects
Mebeverine (ATC A03AA04) has muscle relaxant and antispasmodic properties in the gastrointestinal tract and biliary tract. It is selectively effective on smooth muscle. Unlike other spasmolytics, it is not anticholinergic
Indications
For symptomatic treatment of pain and abdominal cramps associated with functional complaints of the digestive tract and biliary tract. It is used, for example, in irritable bowel syndrome.
Dosage
