Mepyramine is commercially available as a gel, an external solution, and a spray. It is found exclusively in combination products, for example, Stilex and Parapic.
Structure and properties
Mepyramine (C17H23N3O, Mr = 285.38 g/mol) is present in drugs as mepyramine maleate, a white to slightly yellowish powder that is very soluble in water. It was among the first antihistamines synthesized in the 1940s.
Effects
Mepyramine (ATC D04AA02, ATC R06AC01) has antihistamine, antiallergic, and antipruritic properties. The effects are due to antagonism at histamine H1 receptors.
Indications
Insect bites, allergic, pruritic, and inflammatory skin diseases.
