Nutrition after surgery
After an operation on the intestinal tract, it is important to give the intestine a rest period. This means that for the first few days after the operation, food should be fed bypassing the intestinal tract, i.e. parenterally. This can be done, for example, by infusions with high-calorie food.
Afterwards, it is recommended to gradually build up the diet so that the digestive tract slowly gets used to food again. Several small meals are important here.
- Stage: low-fiber carbohydrates, fat-free products
- Stage: also carbohydrate-rich diet (white bread, brown bread), very lean protein products.
- Stage: like the 2nd stage, the protein products may contain a little more fat
- Stage: sufficient fiber, light whole food
