Introduction
Pheromones for men are messenger substances which are to be absorbed by women to make them look more attractive and masculine. “Man” hopes that this will give him a better chance when choosing a partner and increase his sexual attraction to the chosen candidate. The word “pheromone” comes from the Greek and means “carrier of an arousal”, which also describes the mode of action. The woman should be positively influenced by the messenger substance and perceive the affected man as more attractive.
How do pheromones work?
A pheromone is a messenger substance that serves to transmit information between two individuals of the same species. There is a sender, who releases the substance, and a receiver, who generates a certain stimulus after absorption. The stimuli are unconsciously absorbed via the nose into the olfactory system or via other sensors.
Among other things, this results in an influence on sexual behaviour, orientation or alarm behaviour in the animal kingdom. The pheromones are divided into two subgroups, the signal pheromones, which have a short-term effect, and the primer pheromones, which are supposed to have a longer-term effect. An example for the latter would be the king substence of the honey bee, which inhibits the fertility of the worker bees in the long term.
One can compare the mode of action with that of a hormone. The only difference is that hormones act between cells of one body and pheromones between cells of two different bodies. While more than 100 such substances are known in the animal world, this type of stimulus transmission is largely unexplored in humans. Although it is assumed to exist, there are no meaningful studies on it.
Can pheromones be used to increase the attractiveness for women?
There are basically different types of pheromones, with different effects, which probably also work in humans. Male pheromones act as fragrances on women. For example, the breakdown products of testosterone in men’s sweat can have an arousing and mood-lifting effect on women.
Artificially produced pheromones are supposed to trigger a feeling of security and sympathy in women, simply achieving that one has a “good feeling” with men. Through these characteristics, the attractiveness is increased at the same time and the man is more likely to be considered for further (relationship) steps. In theory, the sprayed-on pheromones should be absorbed through the woman’s nose and thus serve as a messenger to the woman’s brain. There the center for sexuality is addressed and the man who smells good is made more attractive. Whether this type of stimulus transmission actually works has not yet been scientifically confirmed.
