Prophylaxis | Meckel’s diverticulum

Prophylaxis

In order not to overlook undiscovered diverticula and thus not to be responsible for possible complications which may arise from a Meckel’s diverticula, the corresponding intestinal area is searched for a possibly occurring Meckel’s diverticula during every abdominal operation.

Prognosis

A Meckel’s diverticulum usually has a good prognosis. However, depending on the course of the disease and the complications it can become much worse. If, for example, the diverticulum is not detected in time and if complications occur, life-threatening clinical pictures such as blood poisoning (sepsis) can result.
