Scleroderma: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of scleroderma.

Family history

  • Is there a history of frequent skin diseases, autoimmune diseases in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed any skin changes? If so, in which areas? Since when?
  • Do you suffer from muscle/joint pain (arthralgia, often in the small joints)?
  • Do you have muscle/joint pain?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you underweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Has your body weight changed recently?
  • Do you have a balanced diet? What foods do you prefer?
  • Who cooks your meals?
  • How many meals do you eat per day?
  • Do you eat with an appetite?
  • Do you have a feeling of hunger?
  • Do you have problems swallowing food or drinking?
  • Do you suffer from heartburn? Feeling of fullness?
  • Do you experience frequent nausea or vomiting?
  • Do you suffer from diarrhea or constipation?
  • What does the bowel movement look like? Greasy? Foul-smelling?
  • Do you have fecal incontinence (inability to retain stool)?
  • Do you drink enough? What do you drink daily?
  • Do you get enough exercise every day?
  • Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?
