A skin bleaching product (synonym: skin-bleaching) contains substances that lighten the skin for cosmetic reasons. Sun rays and skin aging can lead to uneven melanin production, which can result in freckles, age spots, or pigmentation disorders. Skin bleaching products are used to lighten the skin or to make age spots and freckles disappear.
Ingredients of cosmetics with lightening effect include.
- Lactic acid
- Fruit acid
- Vitamin C
- Plant extracts with lightening effect such as licorice root extract, bearberry extract or a combination of extracts of mallow, cowslip, lemon balm and yarrow.
- Other ingredients of cosmetics with whitening effect are UVA and UVB filters and vitamin E.
Note: Cosmetics containing the bleaching agent hydroquinone are prohibited.
What cosmetics are used to lighten the skin?
- Lightening serums
- Brightening masks
- Brightening face creams
- Brightening hand creams
Brightening serums
A brightening serum fights the formation of pigmentation spots and supports a uniform complexion. The serum should be applied to the face, neck and décolleté in the morning and evening after cleansing. In the morning, it should be followed by a cream with a high sun protection factor.
Brightening masks
A brightening mask helps to lighten the skin and even out the skin tone. The mask should be applied once or twice a week to the previously cleansed face. After an application time of about 10 minutes, the mask should be rinsed off. After that, the usual skin care cream should be applied.
Brightening face creams
A brightening face cream reduces existing skin spots and counteracts the appearance of new ones. Usually, the cream contains nourishing substances that also moisturize and nourish. The cream is applied to the previously cleansed face in the morning and evening. In the morning, a sun cream with a high sun protection factor should also be applied afterwards.
Brightening hand creams
A brightening hand cream slows down age-related melanin production to counteract age and pigment spots.
It often contains a high SPF to protect against UVA and UVB rays.
The hand cream should be applied and spread thinly on the hands several times a day.
Caution for sensitive skin! When choosing skin-lightening cosmetics, pay attention to which skin types they are suitable for. Some cosmetics with lightening effect are not suitable for sensitive skin.
