Skin color and sunburn
Apart from melanin, there are other factors that influence skin color: These include, above all, the blood vessels which, when they dilate, cause the skin to become red. Gender (men have on average slightly darker skin than women) and body area (palms of hands and soles of feet, for example, cannot tan as much as the rest of the skin because the cells there have less melanin) also play a role in the development of skin color
