Soothing Ointment

Soothing ointment PH can be made in well-equipped pharmacies. Retailers can also obtain it from specialized suppliers such as Hänseler.

Structure and properties

Soothing ointment is a soft, slightly yellowish ointment. It should be stored tightly closed, protected from light. Depending on the prescription, storage in the refrigerator is also recommended.

Preparation

Bleached wax 8 g
Hydrogenated peanut oil 17 g
Refined peanut oil 50 g
Virgin castor oil 5 g
Sodium dodecyl sulfate 0.10 g
Purified water ad 100 g

The bleached wax, hydrogenated peanut oil, refined peanut oil and native castor oil are heated on the water bath until clear melt. The sodium dodecyl sulfate is dissolved in 20 ml of purified water. The aqueous sodium dodecyl sulfate solution, also heated to about 50°C, is in emulsified into the still liquid fat phase at about 50°C. Evaporated water is replaced, so that the mass of the cold-stirred ointment is 100 g. According to the DMS, additional antioxidants can be added for stabilization, see under Recipe DMS.

Effects

The emollient ointment is skin caring and slightly cooling (“cold cream”) due to the evaporation of water. The effect can be enhanced by adding menthol, see Menthol Coldcream.

Areas of application

For the treatment of skin diseases, as a skin care product and cream base.
