Sudden Infant Death Syndrome: Examination

If no definite signs of death are evident, the rescue team begins resuscitation.

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination-including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection (viewing).
      • Skin and mucous membranes [signs of suffocation?, skin color (pale/blue/gray)?]
      • State of consciousness [awake/sleeping/unconscious?]
    • Auscultation (listening) of the heart.
    • Auscultation of the lungs
    • Palpation (palpation) of the abdomen (abdomen)

Square brackets [ ] indicate possible pathological (pathological) physical findings.
