The child has flatulence
Self-reproaches are counterproductive, since the maternal nutrition usually has nothing at all to do with the infantile flatulence (see behavior in the lactation period). One should try out which foods are tolerated and which are not. In the case of suspect foods, an outlet test can help.
Once the flatulence is there, abdominal massages help very well. Massage clockwise around the navel, if necessary with a suitable oil. Relief can also be provided if the child is placed on a warm surface (hot water bottle, grain pillow) with the belly, or carried lying on the forearm with the belly (flying grip).
Another reason for flatulence in the child may be the mother’s coffee consumption. Caffeine is absorbed by the baby through breast milk, which can probably also lead to flatulence and abdominal pain. The cause can be a large amount of milk or a strong milk-donor reflex.
If the baby starts to drink, so much milk flows into his mouth that he cannot swallow so quickly. Warm compresses before breastfeeding help to stimulate the milk flow. Then a little milk should be spread out manually. Breastfeeding positions where the milk has to flow against gravity can also help.
The child spits a lot
As long as the child otherwise develops well and makes a satisfied impression, there is no need to worry. One should only make sure that the child can burp after breastfeeding. If, however, the child vomits in a high arc and loses weight, the pediatrician should be consulted. This can be a stomach gatecrasp (pyloric stenosis), in which the milk can only flow slightly into the intestine due to the thickening of the stomach outlet muscle.
Homeopathy for breastfeeding complaints
Like many complaints, the problems associated with breastfeeding can also be treated homeopathically. For this purpose we have written the following topics:
- Homeopathy for breastfeeding complaints
- Homeopathy for insufficient milk
- Homeopathy for exhaustion caused by breastfeeding
