Tourette Syndrome: Therapy

Psychotherapy

  • Behavioral therapy (VT) – for sufferers aged 10 and older.
    • Indication: mild courses
    • Benefit:
      • Relief of tics (up to 30%).
      • Strengthening of self-awareness
      • Breaking the behavioral chains by learning competing behaviors.
    • The following VT are offered:
      • Habit-reservational training (HRT) (“reaction reversal treatment”) – learning an alternative behavior to prevent tics.
      • Exposure and Response Prevention Training (ERPT) – the automatism that a pre-feeling is always followed by a tic should be interrupted
  • To improve possible concentration and attention disorders:
    • Educational, special education, curative education counseling or therapy procedures.
  • Learning relaxation techniques to better defuse stressful situations that can lead to reinforcement of tics.
  • Detailed information on psychosomatics (including stress management) you will receive from us.

Complementary treatment methods

  • Music therapy – By playing an instrument quickly, nervous impulses can be dissipated. Especially suitable are drums and organ, because here both hands and feet are used.
