Vertigo (Dizziness): Test and Diagnosis

2nd order laboratory parameters – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Small blood count [anemia/anemia?; MCV ↑ → indication of alcohol abuse/abuse, if any].
  • Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein).
  • Urine status (rapid test for: glucose).
  • Fasting glucose (fasting blood glucose)
  • Ferritin (iron stores) – if iron deficiency anemia is suspected.
  • Syphilis serology – if syphilis (lues; venereal disease) is suspected.
  • Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) puncture for CSF diagnosis – if multiple sclerosis (MS) is suspected.
  • Blood gas analysis (BGA)
  • CO hemoglobin (synonyms: CO-Hb, carboxyhemoglobin, carbon monoxide hemoglobin) – due topossible carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Mercury (due topossible intoxication).
  • Tetrachloromethane (due topossible intoxication).
