Heart pain due to flatulence
When heart pain is caused by the pressure of the stomach or intestine on the heart when the heart is flatulent, this is called Roemheld Syndrome. The stomach and intestines lie directly under the heart and are separated from it by the diaphragm. If they are bloated or enlarged, pressure is exerted on the heart.
This pressure can be caused by heavy meals lying in the stomach, for example. In addition, food intolerances or inflammation of the stomach lining can lead to flatulence. Roemheld syndrome can be treated with drugs that reduce the accumulation of gas in the intestine, thereby reducing flatulence. This reduces the pressure on the heart and thus the heart pain.
Heart pain in the menopause
During the menopause there are various changes in the body caused by the natural decline of the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone. As these hormones also influence the psychological mood, the menopause is often associated with increased sensitivity, mood swings, stress and restlessness. These feelings can lead to palpitations, additional heartbeats or heart pain. Another change brought about by the drop in hormone levels is the loss of vascular protection, as estrogen causes, among other things, a dilation of the vessels. For this reason, diseases of the cardiovascular system with heart pain occur more frequently after the menopause.
Heartache after alcohol
Heart pain after alcohol consumption can be accompanied by increased stress to which the body is exposed when breaking down alcohol and palpitations. Particularly long-term alcohol consumption is very harmful to the cardiovascular system, can increase blood pressure and promote serious diseases such as heart attacks. However, heart pain after drinking alcohol can also have nothing to do with the consumption of alcohol itself. During the night after drinking alcohol, many people often simply fall into bed and do not pay attention to their lying position. The next morning this can cause tension in the chest area, which feels like heart pain.
