Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of peripheral arterial disease (pAVD).
Family history
- Is there a history of frequent cardiovascular disease and/or dyslipidemia in your family?
Social history
Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).
- Do you suffer from pain in the legs?
- When does this pain occur? During exertion or at rest?
- How far can you walk without experiencing the pain?
- Do you suffer from numbness/coldness in your legs?
- Do you have skin ulcers on your legs? Do these heal poorly?
- Has the skin in this area changed?
- Do you suffer from muscle cramps?
Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.
- Do you eat a balanced diet?
- Do you smoke? If so, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
Self history including medication history.
- Pre-existing conditions (hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus).
