- Computed tomography (CT) – sectional imaging procedure (X-ray images from different directions with computer-based evaluation).
- Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) – computer-based sectional imaging procedure (using magnetic fields, i.e. without X-rays); particularly well suited for changes in the spinal cord and brain.
- Abdominal sonography (ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs) – to exclude malignant diseases in the abdominal cavity.
- X-ray of the thorax (X-ray thorax/chest), in two planes – to exclude malignant diseases.
