Arm Pain: Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection (looking at) and palpation (feeling) of the shoulder, upper and lower arm, and hands.
    • Auscultation (listening) of the heart
    • Auscultation (listening) of the lungs
  • Orthopedic examination – including range of motion
  • Neurological examination – including testing of reflexes, sensitivity, motor skills.
