When should I see a doctor for diarrhea?
Although diarrhea can often be stopped or at least survived with home remedies, there may be indications for which one should nevertheless seek medical advice. First of all, this includes prolonged diarrhea: if the symptoms have persisted for longer than a week, there is a risk of losing a lot of fluid and vital electrolytes in the long term. This can also be an indication of an infection that cannot be treated with household remedies.

Further examinations should also be carried out urgently if there is blood in the stool or if the stool is darkly discolored – the latter can be an indication of bleeding in the stomach or upper intestine.
