Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of Achillodynia (Achilles tendon pain).

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?
  • Are there any diseases of the tendons, bones/joints that are common in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Do you work physically hard in your profession?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • How long has the pain been present?
  • When does the pain occur?
    • Do you have exertional pain?
    • Do you have pain at rest?
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is very mild and 10 is very severe, how severe is the pain?
  • Is the area around the Achilles tendon swollen/heated or red?
  • Do you feel stiffness in the Achilles tendon after exercise?
  • Are there any functional limitations of the affected lower leg/foot?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • What sports do you practice?
  • How often do you exercise per week and at what intensity?
  • Have you changed your training? (Type, intensity, duration, training ground).
  • Have you changed your footwear?
  • Do you do stretching exercises regularly?

Self-history

  • Pre-existing conditions (diseases of tendons, bones/joints, injuries, metabolic diseases).
  • Surgeries (orthopedic, trauma surgery).

  • Cortisone
