Acupuncture and Moxibustion

Acupuncture

The word comes from Latin – “acus” means “needle” and “pungere” means “to prick”. Acupuncture makes use of the so-called meridians (Chinese: “Jing Mo” = pulsating vessel). In these pathways flows an energy called “Qi” (pronounced: chi). The Qi is the energy of our body – the life energy – and it can be influenced in various ways via puncture points – acupuncture points – on the different meridians. In contrast to the rest of the skin, the acupuncture points have a lower skin resistance.

TCM assumes that Qi must flow in order for us to be healthy and feel well. If the flow of Qi is obstructed or if it flows too strongly, illnesses will result. With the help of acupuncture, the Qi is brought back into balance. In doing so, the corresponding acupuncture points are either stimulated (excited) or sedated (calmed). Through acupuncture of the superficial skin meridians, the deeper lying meridians are influenced and thus also our organs. There are twelve main meridians, usually named after organs, which begin and end at the hands and feet, respectively:

  1. Heart
  2. Small intestine
  3. Bladder
  4. Kidney
  5. Circulation – sexuality
  6. Triple warmer
  7. Gallbladder
  8. Liver
  9. Lungs
  10. Large intestine
  11. Stomach
  12. Spleen – Pancreas (pancreas)

They are divided into yin and yang.

Furthermore, there are many other meridians, which are called secondary meridians.

The areas of application of traditional acupuncture are enormously diverse.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a list of approximately 100 indications (areas of application) for this method of treatment.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a variation of acupuncture. It involves heating Chinese mugwort wool in cones and burning it over the acupuncture points. In this way, an intensified effect of acupuncture can be achieved.

Benefits

Acupuncture is able to fight diseases in a natural way. It is based on millennia-old wisdom and methods that have already helped countless people around the world. Often, people find relief from their ailments with the help of acupuncture, although traditional medical methods have been unable to help them.
