Aftercare | Lipofilling with own fat

Aftercare

Immediately after the procedure, both the donor site and the filled area show swelling and often bluish discoloration. However, cooling with cold water or ice can help to keep the swelling from getting too large. The swelling and discoloration should go down after a few days and disappear completely. After about ten days the stitches must be removed. After three months at the latest, the final result will be visible. At this time, the doctor treating the patient should carry out a follow-up examination to assess the result and discuss any possible follow-up treatments in consultation with the patient.

Complications and side effects

Since lipofilling uses the body’s own fat, there are very few side effects due to rejection reactions. Therefore, no allergy test has to be carried out in advance. If the fat is not absorbed equally well on both sides, asymmetries in the body will occur.

This can be remedied by a follow-up treatment. In the course of the healing process, a bacterial infection can occur, as with any wound, but this is very rare because the wounds are relatively small. In this case, however, antibiotic therapy must be initiated to combat the bacteria.

Duration

The actual procedure takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Depending on the amount of fat removed, it may take longer. After the procedure, the patient is quickly ready for use again.

He should only refrain from sports activities for a few days, so that the wounds have time to heal. Sunshine and visits to a solarium should be avoided for the first four weeks after the procedure.
