Lipofilling with own fat

Lipofilling is also known as autologous fat transplantation and is a method used to refill sunken areas and wrinkles on the body with fat. This method is most commonly used on the face, but can also be performed on other parts of the body, such as the breasts or buttocks. It is an outpatient treatment performed by a plastic surgeon under local anesthesia. The advantage of autologous fat transplantation over the use of synthetic products is that it is better tolerated. The body recognizes the used fat as its own and a rejection process does not take place here to the same extent as with other materials.

Fields of application

Lipofilling is performed for cosmetic and aesthetic reasons. Patients have the desire to change something about their appearance. By means of autologous fat transplantation, the volume can be increased in almost all parts of the body, wrinkles can be eliminated and body parts can be brought back into shape.

By far the most common area of application of lipofilling is the face. Here wrinkles can be reduced by this method. Circles under the eyes or insufficient lip volume can also be eliminated by lipofilling.

In addition, the transplantation of autologous fat is used for breast augmentation. For this, however, a larger amount of fat must be removed from the body than in wrinkle treatment. With autologous fat transplantation, however, only a change of half a cup size to a cup size can be achieved.

Even if women have differently sized breasts, lipofilling can create a symmetrical situation. In addition, in very slim women who receive breast implants, autologous fat can be injected into the breast so that the edges of the implant do not show so clearly on the skin. The buttocks can also be shaped using the patient’s own fat. Lipofilling can actually be applied to any part of the body where the patient wishes to increase volume. In addition to the main areas of application, calves, ankles and hands can also be considered.
