Allergic Contact Dermatitis: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis.

Family history

Social anamnesis

Current anamnesis/systemic anamnesis (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What changes in the skin have you noticed?
  • Did they occur only in one place or on the whole body?
  • How long have these changes been present?
  • Was there a triggering moment? Wearing a watch, gloves, jewelry, perfume, etc.?
  • Do the skin lesions itch/burn?
  • Have you noticed any other symptoms?
  • Are you aware of any other skin conditions?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?

Self history incl. medication history.

Dental status

  • Dental crowns (palladium) – in the case of metal contact allergy, exposure to dental crowns with a palladium alloy could play a role
