The Bepanthen active ingredient is a provitamin and is converted into active vitamin B5 in the body.

What are the side effects of Bepanthen Wound and Healing Ointment?

The Bepanthen active ingredient is very well tolerated, but the ointment contains other excipients and additives, e.g. lanolin, stearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol. In rare cases, these ingredients can cause local skin irritation, which, however, subsides and eventually disappears after treatment with Bepanthen wound ointment is discontinued. The skin irritation manifests itself in the form of itching, redness, rash or blistering.

If an allergy to the Bepanthen active ingredient is known, the ointment must not be used.

No interactions with other ointments and medications are known to date. Only when using the ointment in the genital and anal area should special care be taken when using latex condoms at the same time, as the tear resistance of the condom can be reduced by the ointment. There is then an increased risk of pregnancy or the transmission of diseases.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and children

Bepanthen wound ointment can be used by children, elderly patients, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. The application has no harmful effect on the fetus or infant. The ointment can also be applied to stressed or cracked skin on the abdomen of pregnant women to accelerate healing.
