Cardiac Arrhythmias: Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate cardiac arrhythmias:

  • Bradycardia (heartbeat that is too slow: <60 beats per minute).
  • Tachycardia (heartbeat too fast: > 100 beats per minute).
  • Palpitations (heart palpitations), often accompanied by feelings of anxiety.
  • Pulsations in the neck area
  • Heart stuttering / irregular pulse (arrhythmia absoluta).

Secondary symptoms

  • Fatigue
  • Drowsiness
  • Paleness
  • Dyspnea (shortness of breath)
  • Hypotension
  • Fatigue
  • Pectanginous complaints / angina symptoms (cardiac stenosis).
  • Polyuria (urinary flooding), especially after tachycardia (due toincreased ANP secretion (atrial natriuretic peptide)).
  • Vertigo (dizziness)
  • Confusion
  • Syncope (brief loss of consciousness caused by reduced blood flow to the brain).
  • Thoracic pain (chest pain)
  • Rapid loss of consciousness (in ventricular flutter, ventricular fibrillation).
  • Seizure
  • Heart failure (cardiac insufficiency)
  • Respiratory arrest
