Different localization locations

Boils can also form on the labia. The focus of inflammation looks like purulent pimples and can appear on both the inner and outer labia. The boils develop from an inflammation of the hair follicles, which spreads into the adjacent tissue.

Furuncles can also be caused by injuries to the labia, for example, by genital piercings, or scouring underwear. Due to their location, boils on the labia are particularly unpleasant and any movement causes pain to the affected women. If the boil is very large and causes severe pain, a doctor should be consulted immediately.

A boil can also form between the vagina and anus in women. The proximity to the anus favours the penetration of bacteria via hair follicles into the deep skin layers. This leads to an inflammatory reaction and the formation of a furuncle. Depending on the size of the furuncle and the severity of the inflammation, the furuncle can cause pain as well as problems with defecation. If the boil does not empty and heal on its own, a doctor must remove the boil between the vagina and the anus.

Boils during pregnancy

Many women develop furuncles in or on the vagina during pregnancy. The pregnancy weakens the immune system of women, on the one hand because the maturing of the child costs the pregnant women a lot of strength and on the other hand because the embryonic tissue has to be tolerated by the defence system. As a result, bacteria can multiply more easily in the hair follicles of the genital area and promote the formation of a furuncle.

In case of vaginal furuncle in pregnancy, a doctor must be consulted immediately to remove the furuncle professionally. Under no circumstances should the furuncle itself be expressed, otherwise there is a risk that the infection will spread and harm the unborn child.
