Cayenne Pepper: Dosage

Cayenne pepper extract is included in ointments and heat patches for local pain management.

The right dose

Mean daily doses, unless otherwise prescribed, are 0.02-0.05% capsaicinoids in semisolid preparations, 0.005-0.01% in liquid preparations, and 10-40 mg capsaicinoids per cm2 in plasters.

Cayenne pepper: preparation.

Tea preparation is not applicable, as cayenne pepper is not suitable for internal use.

Contraindications of cayenne pepper

Bell pepper should not be used in cases of existing hypersensitivity to peppers. It is also not recommended for use on damaged skin.

Directions for proper use

  • Prolonged use and high doses of capsaicin may cause damage to sensitive nerves and various cell organelles. Therefore, the duration of application should not exceed 2 days. Before a new application should then be paused for about 2 weeks with the treatment.
  • Since bell pepper preparations even in small concentrations very strongly irritate the mucous membranes, contact with mucous membranes and especially the eyes should be avoided.
  • Pepper should be stored dry and protected from light.
