Contraindications

The contraindications result from the side effects. Patients who already suffer from the above-mentioned symptoms even without taking Risperdal® should not be treated with Risperdal®. The use of Risperdal® should be carefully considered in patients with heart problems.

Risperdal® is contraindicated in some heart diseases (e.g. cardiac dysrhythmia) because it inhibits the excitation of the heart. Due to the antihypertensive effect of Risperdal®, even if you have low blood pressure or high blood pressure that has been set by medication, you should not prescribe Risperdal® or only prescribe it with particular care, as your blood pressure could fall even further. In this context, it is also important that Risperdal® should not be prescribed if there is an increased risk of stroke, as the incidence of stroke is higher with Risperdal®.

Patients with Parkinson’s disease, dementia, diabetes, obesity, haematopoietic disorders or convulsions (epilepsy) are also not suitable for treatment with Risperdal®. Risperdal® is also contraindicated if the prolactin level is elevated before the start of therapy, menstruation fails to occur and gynaecomastia is present.
