Plant description

The home of the spice and medicinal plant is Africa and Asia. In the meantime it is also cultivated in other countries, in Europe the climate is less suitable in most countries. The plant grows as a bare herb up to 50 cm high, round stems branched in the upper part.

Basal leaves, feathery and finely divided. The white to pale pink flowers grow in umbels, long stemmed and 3 to 5 rays. Spherical fruits develop. When unripe, they develop an unpleasant, aromatic smell for many people.

Curative effects and application

Besides caraway, fennel and aniseed, coriander is an excellent remedy for flatulence and bloating. That is why these drugs are often used mixed. Coriander also has a slight antispasmodic effect and stimulates the appetite. In addition, coriander is a popular spice, especially in Asian medicine, and a component of spice mixtures.

Combination with other medicinal plants

Tea mixture against flatulence and bloating: Mix: 20 g caraway and 10 g each of aniseed, fennel and coriander and crush the fruits coarsely in a mortar. Two teaspoons of this mixture are poured over with 1⁄4 l of boiling water, one lets 10 minutes pull, strains. If necessary, one cup, unsweetened.
