Diagnosis

The diagnosis of a heart attack is usually made by means of an electrocardiogram, or ECG for short. This is used to measure the electrical excitation conduction and propagation in the heart. Emergency physicians very quickly recognize typical patterns on the ECG and then initiate appropriate therapy. The diagnosis of intercostal neuralgia is usually made by means of a physical examination and the triggering of chest pain by various pressure points. Similarly, the diagnosis of rib fractures is made by simple palpation and X-ray of the chest.

Prophylaxis

The prophylaxis of sports injuries should be clear to every athlete: In addition to appropriate protective clothing and sufficient warming up, an appropriate level of healthy self-assessment is very helpful in preventing injuries. Avoiding heart disease is in itself similarly simple: a lot of exercise, a balanced diet, avoiding tobacco, and alcohol, as well as a healthy body weight contribute to a balanced lifestyle. Excessive stress should be avoided and, if necessary, you should reduce your working hours.

Your own health should always take priority! If you have a family history of heart disease, you should also have regular check-ups.
