Diagnosis | Trembling hands in youth

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of exactly which disease is hidden behind the trembling of the hands, if it is a disease, can take different lengths of time. Particularly with regard to alcohol or drug consumption, patients must be open and honest with their doctor in order to protect themselves from overdiagnosis and unnecessary physical stress. In many cases, a corresponding suspected diagnosis can already be deduced from the patient’s medical history. Only in later stages of diagnosis can an MRI or CT be used to verify or falsify different suspected diagnoses.

Other accompanying symptoms

Which symptoms may be present in addition to hand tremors depends on the disease that causes hand tremors. Cold sweatiness is also found, for example, in people who are currently undergoing drug or alcohol withdrawal and is part of the withdrawal syndrome. In addition to hand trembling, there is also a continuous rotational movement in the cervical spine and a constant variance in the voice of the affected person, since the vocal chords are also subject to trembling.

  • In hypoglycaemia, for example, having too little sugar in the blood, the tremor is often paired with cold sweat.

Scientifically, no correlation between trembling hands in adolescents and simultaneous back pain could be established. However, it is possible that both symptoms occur independently of each other.

  • Back pain
  • Back pain during growth spurt

Dizziness is a relatively unspecific symptom and could have its cause in connection with shaky hands in adolescence from a number of different sources.

The medication for the so-called essential tremor mainly causes a drop in blood pressure. If this seizure is too large, the brain may not be supplied with sufficient blood and dizziness may become a warning symptom of the body. If the dizziness persists, it should be clarified by a doctor. It can, but does not have to have anything to do with the trembling hands.

  • Possible side effects of drugs, for example, would be conceivable.
  • Furthermore, parkinsonoid syndromes are known, which are partly associated with a disturbed balance perception.
