Disorders of Peripheral Ligament and Muscle Insertions: Upper Extremity, Hand, Foot: Therapy

General measures

  • Depending on the disease and stage of disease:
    • Relief and immobilization
    • Sports leave
  • In acute enthesopathy, local cooling and sparing of the affected limb may be helpful
  • In case of osteoarthritis or joint degeneration – see under osteoarthritis.
  • In case of trauma – care depending on the nature of the injury.

Conventional non-surgical therapy methods

Medical aids

  • For epicondylitis (acquired, painful irritation of the tendon insertions of muscles), the application of a bandage or brace may also be considered. See under epicondylitis humeri radialis (tennis elbow) or epicondylitis humeri ulnaris (golfer’s elbow).
