Obligatory medical device diagnostics.
- Sialometry (determination of salivary flow rate) – this is the only objective procedure for detecting existing hyposalivation (oligosialia) or xerostomia.Salivary flow measurement provides volume values per unit time (ml/min is the unit commonly used in the literature).
Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics and obligatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnostic clarification.
- MRI sialography (magnetic resonance imaging/nuclear magnetic resonance imaging of the salivary gland and glandular excretory duct system).
- Functional sialoscintigraphy (nuclear medicine examination to determine the activity status of the salivary gland) – this provides information about the function of the salivary glands and their secretion. The examination can provide evidence of, for example, Sjögren’s syndrome or cystic fibrosis and thus sometimes gives rise to further diagnostics.
