Farsightedness (Hyperopia): Surgical Therapy

The following surgical procedures may be used for hyperopia.

  • Conductive keratoplasty Shrinkage in the corneal tissue by heat generation; used for hyperopia up to + 3.0 diopters.
  • Intrastromal corneal ring segments (INTACS) Insertion of small half rings in front of the cornea; use for hyperopia up to + 2.0 diopters
  • Photorefractive keratectomy flattening of the cornea; use in hyperopia up to + 3.0 diopters
  • Laser-assisted epithelial keratomileusis (LASEK) corneal correction and insertion of a therapeutic contact lens; use in hyperopia up to + 3.0 diopters.
  • Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) corneal correction; use for hyperopia up to + 3.0 diopters.
  • Implanted contact lens use in hyperopia up to + 8.0 diopters.
  • Artificial lens implantation + LASIK (bioptics) two-stage procedure combining LASIK and implantation of a lens, rounded off after about three months by a fine corrector; use for hyperopia up to + 7.0 diopters.
  • Clear Lens Extraction Removal of the crystalline lens and insertion of an artificial lens; used for hyperopia up to + 8.0 diopters.
