Fatty Stools (Steatorrhea): Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of steatorrhea (fatty stools).

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?

Social history

  • Have you been abroad recently? If so, where? What were the hygienic circumstances?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • How long have you been suffering from the stool changes?
  • What does the stool look like?
  • Does it have a noticeable smell?
  • How often do you have a bowel movement during the day?
  • Do you suffer from other symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you drink alcohol at an increased rate? If so, what drink(s) and how many glasses of it per day?

Self anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis

  • Pre-existing conditions (pancreatic diseases, intestinal diseases, biliary diseases, metabolic diseases).
  • Surgeries (gastrointestinal surgery)
  • Radiotherapy
  • Vaccination status
  • Allergies
  • Environmental history
