Nutritional medicine

  • Nutritional counseling based on nutritional analysis
  • Observance of the following specific nutritional recommendations:
    • For the treatment of cholecystitis, attention should be paid to a sufficiently high fluid intake, especially during the phase of abstaining from food.
    • In case of vomiting: as long as the vomiting continues, the consumption of any food should be avoided. However, the loss of fluid should be compensated absolutely. To do this, it is recommended to add liquids such as herbal teas (fennel, ginger, chamomile, peppermint and cumin tea) or water initially in small quantities, possibly by the spoonful. When vomiting has stopped, carbohydrate foods such as rusks, toast, and pretzel sticks are well tolerated at first. Meals should be small and eaten throughout the day. Stimulants should be avoided during vomiting and for a week afterwards.
    • If overweight: following the phase of abstaining from food should be a slow weight loss.
      • Low-fat diet – limiting fat intake to 50-60 g / day.
      • Low proportion of refined carbohydrates (white flour, sugar), high proportion of complex carbohydrates.
      • High fiber content, especially cereal fiber such as wheat bran and bran products; cereal fiber lowers cholesterol and thus reduces the risk of gallstones, reducing the risk of cholecystitis.
      • Cholesterol content of the diet < 300 mg/day; Since in the context of an energy-reduced low-fat diet animal foods with a high content of saturated fatty acids should be consumed in a limited way, the cholesterol intake is reduced at the same time, because high-fat animal foods such as eggs, offal, shellfish and crustaceans have a high cholesterol content.
