Goldenrod herb has diuretic (diuretic), anti-inflammatory (antiphlogistic), analgesic (analgesic), and weak antispasmodic (spasmolytic) effects.
The leicarposide is probably responsible for the diuretic properties, which, among other things, inhibits an important antidiuretic enzyme (ACE); in animal experiments, leicarposide has also been shown to prevent the growth of urinary stones. Goldenrod further has inhibitory effects on bacteria and fungi.
