Greasy food in case of gastritis
Fatty food is an extremely negative factor in the diet of people with gastritis. Oily food stimulates the production of gastric acid, which should be avoided in the inflammatory phase. Thus, fatty food usually increases the symptoms.
Fast food and deep-fried products are particularly worthy of mention among foods with a high fat content. These include, for example, French fries, croquettes and chips. Many meat products and fatty fish can also be a relatively fatty food. For the time of the illness one should therefore refrain from eating these foods.
Miscellaneous foods for inflammation of the gastric mucosa
Yoghurt plays a decisive role in the question “What can I eat in the case of gastritis? Low-fat and probiotic natural yogurt is even partially recommended for stomach irritations. On the one hand, yogurt helps to put a protective film over the stomach lining and inhibits the production of hydrochloric acid.
On the other hand, the probiotic properties of yogurt are used when there is a bacterial inflammation of the stomach lining. The pathogen, Helicobacter pylori, can be inhibited by the consumption of yogurt during growth and thus support a cure for chronic, bacterial gastritis. However, low-fat products should be used.
For many people affected, the question arises as to whether ice cream can be eaten during gastritis. It can be said that in the case of acute gastritis, the consumption of ice cream should rather be avoided. Although ice cream is less harmful than fats, for example, it stimulates the production of gastric acid and the cold additionally irritates the mucous membrane.
Although relief from heartburn is observed symptomatically, ice does not combat the cause of the inflammation. There are some types of fruit that can be eaten without hesitation in cases of gastritis, whereas other fruit would be counterproductive in this situation. Apples, bananas, melons, peaches and grapes are well suited.
These varieties contain rather little acid and supply the body with substances important for the immune system. One should avoid fruits like avocado and especially citrus fruits. Lemons or oranges contain a lot of acid and thus lead to an additional burden on the already irritated stomach lining. In addition, care must be taken not to eat unripe fruit in the context of an inflammation of the stomach mucosa.
