Duration of a lymphatic drainage | Lymph drainage during pregnancy

Duration of a lymphatic drainage

Depending on the degree of water retention, the duration of lymphatic drainage varies greatly. One session can take between 20 and 60 minutes. Several sessions are usually necessary for a successful result. However, this question must be clarified individually with the treating physiotherapist.

Does the health insurance company pay for lymph drainage?

There is the possibility of cost absorption for lymph drainage. During pregnancy, however, lymphatic drainages are paid for by the patient herself, as there is rarely an urgent indication. Lymphatic drainages are usually prescribed after breast cancer surgery or other operations and are then covered by health insurance.

During pregnancy, however, there is often no valid reason for the costs to be covered. If, on the other hand, there is severe pregnancy edema or pronounced renal insufficiency, lymphatic drainage can be prescribed by a doctor and the costs are then covered. It is advisable to inquire with your own health insurance company.

What are the costs?

The cost of lymphatic drainage varies and often depends on the physiotherapy practice where the treatment is performed. The duration of the session, the type of edema and the amount of work involved also play a role in the cost calculation. In most cases, the cost of a session is in the mid double-digit range. The average price can be estimated at around 50 Euros per session, for a duration of 30 minutes.
