Hair Care: Protection and Care Measures

Hair needs protection from sunlight and other harmful influences. You should definitely pay attention to this – not only on summer vacation:

  • Protection from UV light: whether a cap or a hat with a wide brim – the main thing is to hide the head of hair from blazing sunlight. Also popular are headscarves, which consist only of a triangle and are not tied under the chin, but at the back of the head.
  • Rinse hair: whether in the sea or in chlorinated water, after bathing the hair should be rinsed with fresh water necessarily. Salt crystals or aggressive chemicals can be removed so best. Afterwards, for drying, gentle squeezing with a terry towel is more beneficial than rubbing, which causes the hair to rub against each other too much and roughen up. Subsequently, do not forget the hat or headscarf.
  • Bring into shape: Before blow-drying applied blow-dry lotion coats the hair like a film and thus provides protection from the hot air. For combing, a coarse-toothed copy is more favorable than a fine comb or even a brush. When “combing” longer hair, it is best to comb through the strands piece by piece from the bottom up – this avoids tangles of hair that are difficult to untangle. The hair will also thank you if it – even in warm weather – is worn open from time to time.

Protect the hair

In addition to these measures, care products also help to protect the hair. On vacation, especially gentle shampoos tailored to the hair type are indicated. They should contain mild wash-active substances (surfactants) and preferably without dyes. Products that contain care substances for dry, damaged hair are favorable. Another option is conditioners. They also enclose the hair like a film, making it easier to comb and protecting it a little from external influences. Conditioners are applied to damp hair after washing and rinsed out again immediately. So-called hair treatments contain even more conditioning agents. They smooth the hair structure. As a rule, they have to be left on for a few minutes and then rinsed out again. Recently, there are also intensive treatments that work for a shorter time and those that remain in the hair. Tip: In the case of split ends, i.e. damaged hair ends, apply the treatment only to the ends and do not wash it out again. This allows the active ingredients to act in a targeted manner.

Which means are the right ones for my hair?

  • A shampoo with a mixture of apricot kernel and sea buckthorn fruit flesh oil provides dry hair with oil and moisture without making it look stringy.
  • For sensitive hair affected by chlorinated water, a shampoo with wheat proteins can help. The wheat protein wraps around the hair and thus increases the resistance and combability.
  • If the hair has already suffered a bit, chamomile and Panama bark are right. This “soap bark” is a particularly mild detergent, which is obtained from the bark of the evergreen tree.
  • If the hair requires additional care, a hair treatment with rosemary and burdock root oil can be useful. It regenerates flaky scalp, improves the structure of brittle hair, provides dry hair and makes it shine again.

The intensive program

Last but not least, there are also special after-sun treatment packs with a repair effect. They usually contain similar active and conditioning ingredients as conditioners, so smooth and envelop damaged hair and make it shine again. However, damaged hair structure cannot be repaired from scratch. But it can be improved. Colored hair needs special attention in summer. Dyeing is an intervention in the hair structure. Strains such as salt or chlorinated water and sunlight also take their toll on the hair. Special color conditioners and treatments should not only protect the hair and make it easier to comb, but also prevent fading. If the color must be refreshed again, it should be waited until after the vacation.

Home remedies for healthy hair

By the way, home remedies are also effective if the hair has been through a lot: Beer, egg yolk or an oil pack makes the hair surface smooth and shiny. Beer and egg yolk are massaged into damp hair and rinsed out immediately. For a pack, olive oil, for example, is gently rubbed into the hair and left there overnight. A shower cap or an old towel protects the bedding. Then wash out with a mild shampoo. In addition, preparations for ingestion provide the necessary strengthening and health maintenance of the hair from the inside – let your pharmacist advise you.
