Home Modification – Kitchen

An ideal kitchen offers enough space for cooking, eating and cozy get-togethers. You should also still be able to accommodate some practical electrical appliances such as a microwave and a small dishwasher.

– Cooking area: the stove should be located near the sink. A storage area right next to the stove and at the same height makes it easier to quickly pull hot pots off the stovetop.

All countertops should be tailored to your height so you don’t put unnecessary strain on your back. A height of ten centimeters below the elbows is considered ideal. It’s best to lower one area of the countertop so you can chop and slice while seated. The space under the plate, of course, is reserved for the legs. The right chair should be comfortable and stable. A swivel chair with armrests and lockable casters is ideal. Adjust the chair so that your forearms are relaxed on the countertop.

– Refrigerator: The refrigerator does not belong under the work surface, but at reach height. This saves unnecessary bending and provides a better overview of the supplies.

– Oven: Whether oven or microwave – the appliance should be installed at eye level. Bending or kneeling is no longer necessary and you can keep a better eye on the meal.

– Cabinets: Choose models with large drawers or pull-out wire baskets, preferably at reach height. Appliances you need every day should be shelved further forward. Heavy items don’t belong on the top shelf or the bottom shelf. Taking them out would put unnecessary strain on your back. Large and thick handles on the cabinets make it easier to grip – especially if you suffer from arthritic conditions or rheumatism.

– Sink: Replace bulky rotary faucets with modern mixer faucets with large levers. These batteries are also available with a built-in water hose. This allows you to pull a shower from the faucet when needed and fill pots that are next to the sink.
